Talk about the Theoites

What made the smart kid act weird

When a new friend Theo made asked him what things he disliked, it took him longer than usual to cook up a response. Candidly, he couldn’t pin down one thing that really ticked him off about people or life no matter how hard he thought about it. Ultimately, he just had to go with regular things people would say. “dishonesty…” Theo responded, looking down at the carefully polished sandals that laced over his uncovered toes.

If she hadn’t seen it before, she would never have suspected. That look on his face. It was the same her brother had had. She lived with him her whole life yet she hadn’t noticed that that look meant something. It was the look of desperation. A longing for help from someone that loved him. It was a deep cry of loneliness, despite being friends with thousands of people.

Until the day she carried her brother’s lifeless body from the pool of blood on the bathroom floor. Just until then did she hear his wailings.

Like Theo, there are likeminded people who do not know enough about themselves. You would often here them say things like “…Good luck trying to figure me out. I barely understand myself.” or alone at night when they try to process the events of the day. They ask questions about why they keep doing things for people and spilling needless information about themselves to people quite easily and for no good reason. Often times at their own detriment.

For the sake of needless extensive repetitions in this article and my laziness towards finding out if they have been classified in the DSM-5, I will refer to them as Theoites.

Theoites never begin their social life as back benchers, they always find themselves in the forefront, where the magic happens. They are usually open to making new friends and might be able to interact deeply with anyone they meet in just a matter of minutes. Needless to say that they are eloquent and usually attractive enough to command a self-esteem above the regular standard.

Within weeks or month (at most) of entering a new social group, theoites would have carved a niche for themselves, creating respectable influence that would ensure their upper hand in reaching out to new people. That is to say that their foundational strength lies in how many people know and support them. As a theoite, starting your social life would have meant keeping the right company; the most beautiful girls, the smarter ones, the more respected ones. You may have needed to keep silent in conversations and debates until people begged you to show forth the brilliance in your voice… thereby making your voice not just an opinion but the final say.

Theoites always have a rescue. Something they would run to as their hidden vulnerability in case it all goes south. It could be an illness, an age-long suicide attempt, a secret that goes against what they preach and teach; the hallmark of their identities. The reason for this rescue is to keep being mysterious. Now, there’s this thing about the human nature and its attention. Human attention is quite difficult to hold, and so, you must remain interesting, incomplete or mysterious to keep them focused on you.

As a theoite, you would always have something up your sleeves. Something that will make them want to see you again. Some dark or hidden past they would want to help, some hidden talent they would want to see more of, some story that would keep their curiosity channeled at you. But as time goes on, it gets scary.

The theoite abandons his simple identity. The intelligent kid who know everything about the periodic table of elements, or a beautiful young lady who loves music and knows all there is to know about emergencies. He abandons his unique identity and seeks to display deeper, weirder and unimaginable things. Especially when his popularity becomes threatened, or when the younger generation are beginning to overshadow his dominion.

The theoite, could at this point go out to seek new knowledge, things beyond the regular levels of human understanding. He would venture into the occult, astral and into esotericism if it means he would be able to capture the attention of people on a grand scale. You can view him as a circus clown who is losing his audience and now wants to pull bigger stunts.

Then the lies begin, and the theoite is caught up in a deep web of unimaginable complexities. For humans with a regular mind, this is the point where their mind splits and where symptoms of personality disorders begin to appear, but the theoite is much stronger. His body may be frail but his mind is hardened with steel. His unique smartness enables him to play his game well beyond suspicious eyes and to evade questions that rattles him out.

Then one day, the theoite’s mother dies. An emotion so deep, it cuts through his wall of hard rationality. A state where he neither felt human compassion nor saw a ray of hope to his survival. This theoite is met with a unique emotion, something that shocks him out of his self deceit and the entanglement he wired around himself. And at that point, he wants out.

These people would not tell you and you may never suspect, but they need your help and they need it fast.

The theoite is naturally smart and caring. Capable but sabotages his every progress, unless it is done for someone he cares for. The article might seem a little complicated with jots of contradictions here and there, but that is exactly what you will face in trying to figure out a theoite. Never forget, he is smarter than you are and your every attempt to rescue him will be faced with a natural response of him hiding off in the corner.

Because, for the theoite, the satisfaction he gets from life is not in pleasing himself but in pleasing the world, this is why he must be saved. He has observed friends and loved ones so much that he lost track of himself. His interest is tied in making people better and he does this often by destroying himself.

His ultimate desire is an untimely death that makes people miss his presence and write his name on walls. The grand appreciation of a life he never lived.

At this end, for many theoite, since their bodies refuse to bend to the will of their mind and auto-destroy, they force it to.

The regular theoite prays for an end to his misery every night before bed. That he never sees the light of dawn.

Theoites are the most lonely of people. The niche they carved becomes their prison and the friends they make become the prison guard. So, pay attention to the words your friends say, reach out to those ones that take long breaks from social media without any explanation. The ones that sigh deeply in the middle of nearly any conversation. The ones that laugh a lot and suddenly blank out in deep thoughts. The ones that talk to themselves expressively even on the road. The ones that pray for you and would sacrifice their existence for you. Especially the smart ones…
